POM Pipe

POM pipe, also known as polyoxymethylene pipe, is an engineering plastic pipe with good rigidity, wear resistance, and dimensional stability. It is widely used in fluid transportation, precision transmission systems, and chemical industries due to its excellent fatigue resistance and low friction coefficient.
POM pipes are usually milky white in color, with a semi hard overall appearance, high rigidity, and good dimensional stability. Its core characteristics include high rigidity (not easily deformed), excellent wear resistance and self-lubricating properties (suitable for transmission components), extremely low water absorption rate (good dimensional stability), and good oil/solvent resistance.
Extraction of core advantages of POM pipes:
⚙️ Extremely high rigidity and hardness: ranking high among general engineering plastics, with outstanding resistance to creep and fatigue.
🛡️ Outstanding wear resistance and self-lubricating properties: particularly suitable for making oil-free or low oil running components such as gears and sliders.
📏 Excellent dimensional stability: With an extremely low water absorption rate (only 0.2%), it can maintain precise dimensions even in humid environments and is not easily deformed.
🧪 Good fatigue resistance: able to withstand long-term, high-frequency repeated impacts, with a long lifespan.
⚠️ Core weaknesses: Insufficient toughness (brittle), not resistant to strong acids/alkalis, difficult to bond
Main application areas of POM pipes
POM pipes are often seen as a low-cost alternative to PEEK (high temperature resistance) or PA (high toughness), mainly used in the following fields:
Fuel and automotive piping: Recommended by well-known manufacturers such as Celanese for use in automotive fuel tanks, internal combustion pipes, and steam exhaust pipes, utilizing its low moisture absorption, fuel resistance, and excellent burst pressure resistance.
Precision transmission components: used for manufacturing customized shaft sleeves, guide rails, rollers, and structural support tubes, utilizing their self-lubricating properties and dimensional stability.
Chemical and fluid transportation: used for transporting weakly corrosive media such as oils and solvents, with weak resistance to strong acids and alkalis.
Industrial equipment and automation: commonly used for hard piping in pneumatic systems, supporting components for equipment frames, and feeding pipes for automation equipment.
Medical and Electronic: Used for electronic equipment sleeves, medical device structural components, etc. that require high insulation and dimensional stability
POM pipe processing and usage instructions
Must be dried: POM is prone to moisture absorption, and must be dried (at 100 ℃ for 4 hours) before extrusion molding or precision injection molding to prevent the formation of bubbles or appearance defects in the pipe.
Narrow processing window: The melting point of POM is close to the decomposition temperature (about 200 ℃), and the temperature control during processing needs to be precise to avoid long-term residence leading to decomposition (release of formaldehyde gas).
Connection method: Due to the difficulty of bonding, POM pipelines are usually connected using sleeve type connectors, quick plug connectors, or mechanical locking methods.
Avoid high temperatures: Although it can withstand heat up to 100-110 ℃, its rigidity and strength will decrease at high temperatures.
Chemical resistance: Not resistant to strong acids (such as concentrated sulfuric acid), strong bases, and oxidants, and should be used in environments that avoid such media
